English version at the End

apt-cache search unix2dos

Procurando no Google encontro a resposta perfeita.

ENGLISH VERSION

I’m facing a problem with one specific subtitle in my DVD Philips DVP642K when, finally, I discovered that this subtitle are using line endings in Unix format (that uses only LF) instead of CR+LF used in Windows format.

This is one more limitation of DVP642K w/ subtitles, this DVD can only read subtitles if you use a subtitle with windows line end format.

So I remembered that I can use a unix2dos command, but in my Debian sid (Sidux) this command doesn’t exists. As always I’m used to use:

apt-cache search unix2dos

But without sucess this time. The solution was to search in Google and as almost always I found the perfect solution. I have to use Flip package and it’s done.

Yes, that’s it, flip does exactly the same thing that unix2dos and dos2unix does. So if you need this command (dos2unix or unix2dos) in Debian just look for Flip package.

After some problems upgrading my kubuntu to one experimental version of KDE4.X I switched my distro to another one called Sidux.

Sidux is Debian Sid with some fixes and modifications, see more information in www.sidux.com .

After some months using only sidux in my Lenovo 3000 N200 laptop, I’m very very happy with it.

I always like to be using bleeding edge software, sidux put me very closer in this aspect.

System is very responsible, fast and use less memory than my old Kubuntu 9.04. I think that the real problem in this case is the Xorg/drivers used in Kubuntu (so this bug isn’t ubuntu fault), but using bleeding edge software even in this case are good .

I’m really excited to see the next version of sidux 2009-03, but i don’t need to be worried with it because sidux is rolling release( I never did so many “dist-upgrade” ‘s before ;-D ).

This post only apply to Brazilians !!

$cd /etc/alternatives
$sudo mv java java_old
$sudo ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/bin/java java

Hello there !

I use KDE as my primary desktop Window Manager but i’m always looking for a better, faster and more efficient solution that fit’s me.

Recently I found some simple but very customizable Window Manager, Openbox. While I cannot configure and customize the Openbox, i will use this with KDE.

Yes, I can change the default Window manager of KDE (KWin) to Openbox ! You know what ?? This look’s very good. My desktop are much cleaner and a little bit faster than before.

For now when I use only Openbox, i use PyPanel too.

I found a problem using Lenovo Keyboard after an Ubuntu upgrade. The major problem is the slash “/” and the Interrogation Point “?” key that don’t work.

Here, I’ll show a *interim* solution.

First use the xev. Press the key you want to know the keycode.

In case of slash key in my laptop I found keycode 105.

Create a file named .xmodmaprc in your home with this content:

keycode 105 = slash question degree

After this you should run “xmodmap .xmodmaprc”, in this example.

Now it works ……….. ///////// ??????
